DIY Ikea Play Kitchen Hack

I have been dying over Pottery Barn’s Chelsea Kitchen.  The farmhouse sink, the gold accents, and the grey cabinets are just perfection.  I wanted to try to re-create Ella a kitchen to match mama’s but at a fraction of the cost.  Ikea to the rescue!  Today, I am sharing my DIY play kitchen hack:

Supplies needed:

My friend, Veronica, and I decided to make them over together.  First, we took the countertop piece and applied the contact paper.  I rolled while she smoothed it over the counter.

We simply cut an X through the holes of the sink and stove and folded the pieces to stick on the back of the counter to create a smooth look.

We also cut a diagonal piece on each corner so that we could cross and fold the edges similar to how you would fold wrapping paper.

Then it was time to spray paint.  I used Krylon’s metallic gold spray paint to coat all of the handles, the sink, faucet, and taped off the edge of the stove and spray painted that as well.

Some of the pieces of the kitchen were already white but some had a wood look.  I prefer an all white kitchen and decided to spray paint the other pieces to match using a Valspar spray paint that had primer within it.

After a couple of coats I let everything cure for 24 hours.

The next day my hubby and I put the kitchen together.  Once it was all set up we took the foam core and cut it to size using a box knife.  We then made faux subway tile using a Sharpie and a level.  We simply just used the width of the level to make the lines and made each “tile” approximately 3.5 inches wide.

And here is the finished product.  I absolutely can’t wait to gift this to my little girl on Christmas morning!

  • Morgan {California To Carolina} - That is pretty dang awesome. I wish I had seen this post before I bought my baby girl a kitchen set for Christmas this year. I love the one we picked (hot pink and wooden accents from Target) but this is so creative and classy looking! I may steal the subway tile and marble countertop ideas for hers before we put it together!

  • Carrie S. - This looks phenomenal! Your daughter will love this :) Pinning it for when I have children one day!
